Karolin Tampere is a visual artist and freelance curator who’s practice deals with engaging in collaborative practices taking on different roles within the field of visual arts. She approaches curating as an socio-political arena that has a critical responsibility which can foster alternative understandings of ecology and new models of sustainability. Tampere has a BA in Fine Art from Bergen Academy of Art and Design and took part in de Appel Curatorial Programme 06/07. Since 2004 she is regularly contributing to the art project Sørfinnset Skole/the nord land, a collaboration with the artists Søssa Jørgensen and Geir Tore Holm in Gildeskål, Norway. During 2013 and partly 2014 she was serving as director of Konsthall C in Stockholm and ran the institution as a collaboration named: the Work group/Arbetslaget with akcg (anna kindgren and carina gunnars) and Anna Ahlstrand. In 2003 she and Åse Løvgren initiated the ongoing collaboration Rakett (www.rakett.biz). In 2010 Rakett finalized COMMON LANDS – Allmannaretten, a exhibition project that through seminars, readers and art projects utilized the process of redevelopment of Oslo’s former industrial harbour, Bjørvika to highlight a number of issues associated with urban development, democracy, access to and the distribution of land. Currently she is engaged in Ensayos, which is a nomadic research program, initiated by curator Camila Marambio it is based in Tierra del Fuego, Chile. Ensayos brings artists, scientists and locals together to address eco-political concerns. In 2014, Ensayo#4 was initiated to adress the Stewardship of the sea and coastline as its concern. Together with artist Randi Nygård, Tampere is part of the core group of #4 that expands the research area of Tierra del Fuego in Patagonia (Antarctica) to the Norwegian coastline in the Arctic region and beyond.
