Michael Laundry (NO/CA) is a Canadian/Norwegian/Polish artist, curator and critic based in Bergen, Norway. Laundry is curator at Mikey Laundry Art Garden (MLAG) and Chair of the Independent Initiatives Nordics Network (IINN). Laundry is an alumnus of the Curatorial Studies Programme, The Curatorial Thing at SixtyEight Art Institute and Verein K Visiting Curator Vienna programme.
Recent engagements include a speaker on artist-run Nordic-Baltic cooperation at The Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia (EKKM). Laundry has also been invited as the Nordic associate with the Independent Initiatives Baltics (IIN) network in cooperation with The Lithuanian Interdisciplinary Artists Association.
Upcoming engagements include invitations to present research at the 10th EASLCE Symposium European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture, and the Environment in Perpignan France, “Sea More Blue: Interdisciplinary Approaches to Blue Ecopoetics”.
Laundry’s research interests focus on curatorial ethics, neo-liberalization in publicly supported art venues, and the intersection between performance, technology and ecology. Published work on these topics has appeared in panels and conferences including, Akademirommet (Oslo) and The University of Plymouth. Laundry’s writing is featured in Kunstkritikk, ArtMargins, Subjekt, Bergenstidende and Morgenbladet.
Laundry holds an MA in Comparative Literature, and MA in Education specializing in Cognitive Linguistics from the University of Bergen. Laundry also holds a B.Ed from the Indigenous Perspectives Education Module (Simon Fraser University, CA) and BA Fine Art from the Faculty of Fine Art, Music and Design, University of Bergen (KMD/UiB). Laundry is coordinator for the MLAG VCR Visiting Curators Residency Programme facilitating Baltic-Nordic cooperation, and Director of the Bergen Museum of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Video Art (MCIVA).
