Nesteren Hasani

 BIOGRAPHY

Nesteren Hasani, an Oslo citizen from Groruddalen with Kurdish roots, is the founder and director of ØST KUNST. As a curator and cultural director, she oversees a range of artistic initiatives, focusing on art's power to connect individuals and communities. Her work spans concept development, art mediation, and cultural direction.

Hasani's approach to curating emphasises art's ability to inspire curiosity and invite engagement across diverse perspectives. She carefully considers how art can be inclusive and accessible, ensuring that a wide range of voices and cultures are represented. She also integrates technology, such as artificial intelligence and interactive media, into her projects. Sustainability is a key theme, explored thoughtfully without superficial gestures.

Hasani's background is deeply rooted in academic and interdisciplinary studies. She holds a Master’s degree in Sociology of Law from the University of Oslo, a Bachelor’s degree in Law with a focus on Human Rights from SOAS, and has pursued studies and courses in project management, social anthropology, authorship, art history and performing arts.

Her contributions can be seen in community-focused projects such as the development of libraries in Linderud and Romsås (Deichman). She has also contributed to the artistic and sustainable vision of Ålesund through EU projects and initiated the Ålesund Literature Festival. Currently, she is focused on creating a new art space in Groruddalen, where a showroom will serve as a platform for local artistic expression and community interaction.

Through her work, Nesteren Hasani seeks to nurture spaces where art can spark dialogue and bring people together, contributing to a broader societal conversation.
